Shri Mamleshwar Mahadev Mandir

abc

Mamleshwar Temple, also known as Amleshwar Mahadev, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on the southern bank of the sacred Narmada River in Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the two temples associated with the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, the other being the Omkareshwar Temple situated on Mandhata Island across the river. While the Jyotirlinga is enshrined in the Omkareshwar Temple, the Mamleshwar Temple houses a sacred Parthiv Ling (a Shiva lingam made of mud or clay). Devotees consider it essential to have darshan at both temples to complete the pilgrimage. The temple sees a surge of visitors during Mahashivratri, Shravan month, and other auspicious occasions, when elaborate rituals like Rudrabhishek and Laghu Rudra are performed with devotion.

Architecture

The Mamleshwar Temple is an exquisite example of Nagara-style architecture, featuring beautifully carved pillars, ornate shikhara, and intricate stone reliefs. The temple complex also includes smaller shrines and ancient inscriptions, highlighting its historical and cultural importance. It is said that Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore, a devout patron of Hindu temples, contributed to the renovation and preservation of the Mamleshwar Temple during her reign in the 18th century. Her efforts ensured that the spiritual and architectural legacy of the temple remained intact for future generations. Surrounded by the tranquil sounds of the Narmada and the chants of devotees, Mamleshwar continues to be a powerful center of Shaiva worship and heritage in central India.
